Starting October 1, 2017, Makita Malaysia has upgraded their service terms and stretched the industry-standard 6-month warranty to a full one-year warranty for both their Makita and Makita MT range of power tools, including their cordless power tools. Even the battery pack and charger would be covered under the 1-year warranty. The only exception for Makita's 1-year warranty is their hot-air guns — which carries the standard 6-months warranty.

While the 1-year warranty demonstrates Makita's commitment towards the quality of their tools regardless of range, we see this as a positive move not only for Makita as a brand, but for consumers and the hardware industry as a whole.

Unfortunately for existing Makita power tool owners, Makita's 1-year tool warranty only covers tool purchased after October 1, 2017 (you'll have to prove it via a dated sales invoice tool serial number in case of a warranty claim) and does not cover damage from abuse or improper usage.

That includes tampering, disassembly, alteration and negligence. Makita also states that the warranty does not cover normal wear and tear including carbon brushes, holder, cap, switch, gear, grinding/cutting discs, bits and blades.
